Absence From School
When a student is absent from school, a telephone
call to the attendance line the morning of the absence is necessary. Please
call 606-4738 extension #1 and leave a message including the following
information:
- Name of student
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for absence
- Teacher’s name
Please make every effort to schedule medical/dental
appointments, etc. during non-school hours. Your child needs
to attend school every day in order to gain all possible opportunities
for learning. When
children are absent our district loses financially, on a daily basis,
approximately $36.00 for each absence.
Tardiness/Early Dismissal
top
Children coming late for school must check in at the office before going
to class. It is very important for students to arrive at school
on time. Classroom activities begin immediately and a late student
not only disrupts the class, but also loses out on valuable instructional
time.
Students being picked up during the school day must be signed out through
the office. Students will not be released to people other than those
appearing on the Student Emergency Card.
Emergency Procedures
top
In the event of a community disaster, such as
an earthquake, our emergency procedure policy is as follows.
No students will be dismissed from school other
than regular dismissal time unless a parent or guardian comes for him/her. No
child will be allowed to leave with another person, even if that person
is a relative or a babysitter, Unless we have written permission to
that effect, or that particular person is listed on the Student Emergency
Card in our files.
Please be sure your child’s Student Emergency
Card is up-to-date at all times.
All parents or designated parties who come for
students must have them signed out through the office.
We are equipped to care for your children in times
of critical situations, and if you are unable to reach the school,
we will care for them here. We
have a number of people with First Aid certificates and the school will
be in communication with various local emergency services.
We ask for your help in the following areas:
top
- Please do not call the school. We must
have the lines open for emergency calls.
- If you do come to school, please remain calm and obey all traffic
laws in regard to the school parking areas, etc., as we may have need
for quick access of emergency vehicles and equipment.
- Follow signs to the student check-out table.
Disaster Signals
top
Fire/Fire Alarm
Other Emergencies/Announcements will be made over the P.A.
The most common commands the teacher will give are:
Duck and Cover---Get under a desk or table, stay away from windows or
doors.
Drop---When outdoors, it is best to flatten self
behind protection available and cover the head and face. Stay
away from overhead wires and objects that may fall.
Illness/Injury
top
Minor injuries will be treated at school. In case of emergency,
an immediate effort will be made to notify parents by telephone. It
is the responsibility of parents to provide transportation and care for
the child who becomes ill or who is injured at school. Therefore,
it is necessary to maintain current emergency information on your child’s
emergency card.
Please do not send your child to school if he/she
has vomited or had an elevated temperature (over 99.6) in the past
24 hours. Even
if he/she seems well, resting time is necessary to completely recover,
and the vomiting and/or elevated temperature may not be completely over.
Medication
top
Parents requesting the school administer medication
to his/her child must fill out a “Medication During School Hours” form. The
form is available in the school office, and requires a doctor’s
signature.
